Effluent Filter

A good effluent filter prevents large solids from leaving the tank, dramatically improving the quality of effluent and extending drainfield life. When comparing filters, be sure to note how filter area is being reported. It’s important to compare both the Total Filter Surface Area and the Total Flow Area. The total flow area of Orenco's patented* FT-Series Residential Biotube® effluent filter is typically five to ten times higher than that of competing brands. Read Filter Facts to learn more.

How They Work

Effluent from the relatively clear zone of the septic tank, between the scum and sludge layers, enters the Biotube effluent filter through inlet holes in the housing. Larger particles are retained in the filter's interior space, where organic materials further decompose. Optional flow modulating orifices at the outlet of the filter slow the flow through the tank, allowing maximum settling of solids.

Each filter comes with a Biotube filter cartridge (in 4-, 8-, 12-, and 15-in. diameters), a PVC housing, and an extendable PVC handle for easy removal. A shortened version of our standard 8- and 12-in. diameter filters, called a "base inlet filter," is available for low-profile tanks.

Options

An optional alarm is available to signal a high-level condition in the tank, which may indicate a need to clean the filter. An optional slide rail system, available on larger filters, simplifies installation and provides access for servicing. Slide rails are required when there is only one access to the tank.
